3. Search to Connect Rather Than Search for an Ally

Upon joying a new organization, our first objective is to search for an ally, one who offers a mutual benefit of a mirrored reflection to our own way of thinking. Your purpose though, is to connect to others. So that you form strategic relationships that are like, but different than an ally.

Sam Walton, Chairman of Walmart; “I solemnly promise that every time a customer comes within ten feet of me, I will smile, look him in his eyes and greet him.” Your purpose has an advantage since you are sincerely and willfully searching to connect while deliberately trying to form the relationship at a deeper level.

Connecting at the Heart Level

Verbal’s and non-verbal’s, such as eye contact, hand gestures, facial expressions, etc., set you up to be misunderstood so some encounters may begin negatively. You must always recognize the need to break through this barrier and begin to look inward. A smile is the most important means to building a relationship. When they know how much you care about them, then the relationship becomes meaningful.
